A typical stereotype image of politicians are serious, gray-suited people who are in-charge of formulating policies. Since politics is about endless debates, tough choices, and intense discussions, politicians often neglect a talent that is needed in their field. That talent is charisma.
Charisma is a very powerful tool in business and other fields such as politics. But what is charisma? Charisma is not easy to define. It is intangible but we know it when we see it.
Among politicians, forming policies is their main agenda; but if they have charisma, they will be able to inspire and communicate better with people. Charisma will also make people think and urge them to get involved.
A study has shown that charisma is in-born and learned. Politicians who wish to get more people on their side will definitely have a plus if they have charisma.
What makes people attracted to charismatic persons? Physical attraction, beauty, and sex appeal are often part of charisma. As part of our instincts, we are attracted to good-looking persons. That may explain the magic of charisma; but it is not always the case. You may not be the best-looking person, but if you are able to lighten up a room with your own presence and sway people to believe in your visions, then you certainly have charisma.
Charismatic people have 3 common attributes:
1. They have strong emotions.
2. They can provoke strong emotions in other people.
3. They are resistant to other people’s charisma.
Here is a list of things that politicians should do to learn to be more charismatic:
1. Try to be more charismatic.
If you think you lack charisma or need more charisma to help you, then try to be more charismatic! Just remember not to overdo it.
2. Work on your image.
Who says striving hard will get you anywhere? It is also important to check your personal grooming. See if you exude confidence and appear professional.
3. Actions speak louder than words.
Leaders do not project vulnerability or weakness. When making speeches or just talking, avoid covering your face, and try to smile genuinely. Also, learn to make your voice stronger and calmer while maintaining eye contact. Firm handshakes are also a plus.
4. Attend courses that will build your leadership skills.
There are courses that you can take to help you boost your charisma or other areas of yourself that you want to work on.
5. Work on your emotional quotient.
Being a politician or a leader means that you are strong and competent and thus, you should create a healthy staff. This means that everyone in your staff or environment must feel their worth and contributions. Learn how to listen and make others comfortable in social scenes.
6. Lead by example.
Be an example to the people by exuding optimism and confidence. Be fair and constructive.
7. Be passionate about your work.
Simplify complex messages and inspire people with your goals. Let people see your vision and believe in it.
8. Have a sense of humor.
This makes politicians more engaging but make sure that you use humor in appropriate conversations.
Charisma in politics is not only about good looks. It requires some work and action but the rewards is worth it!
“Enthusiasm and Charisma: You Can Actually Develop Them!”
Oh, if it were but easy to motivate others and get them to be enthusiastic about a task ahead. While many leaders are great strategists and organizers, it takes a little bit more to be a true leader – a motivator that can rally people together to accomplish something big.
Some people are born with a natural charisma and appeal, while others have to practice the craft until they understand how to get a group to move forward as one. Here are a few things to work on when learning the art of charm.
1. It’s Not Just About You. It might be, but it shouldn’t be. And at the very least, you shouldn’t give off that kind of vibe towards people around you.
There have been thousands of megalomaniacs with the verve to lead nations relying solely on their charisma - and egotism. They have the natural knack for pushing their ideals and thoughts until they become clear. They put forward their plans to reach the goal that is worth fighting for.
And for the lack of leadership and vision, people usually gravitate towards people who seem to know what to do and how to do things. You will have to develop your communication skills and your confidence and competence regarding your goal.
2. Unbridled Enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is infectious. People can smell it on you if you have it. And they will unknowingly absorb some of this when in you come in contact. So if you want to motivate your people, you yourself will have to be motivated.
Without motivation, people will perform below standards. And with this kind of attitude, not too many things get done.
3. Make Them Part of the Group. If you were but the littlest peon in the hierarchy, you probably wouldn’t care about the goals of the leaders, or the project at hand. But if even you, the littlest one, were esteemed and respected, and treated as part of the group, wouldn’t your redouble your efforts to get things done?
As a leader, your goal is to get people involved. Never think that anyone is beyond use. Everyone, big or small, has unique skills, and experience that can help get things done. So if you put your ears to the ground, you might be surprised at what people can contribute to your cause.
4. Regular Communication. The greatest of them will tell you that being able to stir them up with a raucous speech isn’t enough. They have to know how things are going on as the project progresses. You should learn how to keep people posted on every development that is relevant.
5. Make Everyone Feel Special. You teach people how to react to you. If you don’t have a natural interest in others, they may tend to be naturally turned off by you. If you treat everyone in a special manner, pretty soon people will know that you yourself are special.
Conclusion
You don’t have to be mean to be a good leader – only firm. You don’t have to be flimsy – only considerate. If you can treat others well, you are in good position to help others reach a united goal.
So if you truly want others to follow, you need to win their trust and their respect and let them know that you know the way. People love following those that have a clear vision of the future.
“Overcoming Procrastination to Succeed”
One thing common among highly driven millionaires is their strong-held certainty that, despite challenges, they will attain success. They do not have a single drop of procrastination running through their veins.
They are motivated by their goals and dreams. They believe with all certainty that they will attain their objectives even though they are not sure of how the elements will work out.
Belief and confidence pushes you exert more effort to go for your goals, although you do not have a hundred percent assurance that success will be achieved. The subsequent actions you take will naturally improve your possibilities for success.
It is possible that you are one of the people afflicted with the procrastination habit. Procrastination is the tendency to put errands or duties aside until the last minute. It is a common and major obstruction in your “personal life” and career.
Procrastination will hurt your life and career because it will hold you back from doing important jobs resulting to missed opportunities.
New studies reveal successful men adopt these common formulas:
• determine what you desire
• establish a plan on how you can achieve it
• put that plan into action
• make modifications when required until such time you realize your goals
This formula is simple and easy to follow yet most people have trouble abiding by it because of procrastination, fear of reaching success, lacking follow through, lacking motivation, lacking belief, etc.
Here are tips on how to overcome procrastination in order to succeed:
1. Improve how you handle your time. Use your time efficiently and learn how to manage your time well.
For instance, you can invest in some type of scheduling service or software to assist you in organizing your tasks and time better.
2. Never give yourself any excuse to procrastinate. Make as much use of your time as possible.
For instance, you still have 10 minutes left before your office closes. Use this time to accomplish something that only will take few minutes like putting files or organizing them.
3. Create a conducive work environment. Some individuals can concentrate on their job even with chaos and noise around while others cannot. To realize your own highest performance, silence and privacy are required.
4. Prioritize specific jobs. List down the tasks you have been delaying from the most important to least, do the tasks one by one, then cross out tasks that you have completed and move on to the next.
5. Be realistic in all your expectations. One obstacle to success is when you aspire for the moon; and if you cannot reach it, you will only be disappointed and find yourself motionless.
Break huge tasks into manageable and smaller steps so you can create one successful move in each one. This is better than feeling the disappointment when you fail to accomplish one big task.
6. Never say “I cannot do it”. Put away negative beliefs regarding your capabilities and yourself because this is one major reason why you procrastinate. Try doing it first, because you will never know until you try. If you do not believe in your capacity to accomplish a specific task, you are bound to procrastinate.
7. Never fear failure. For some individuals, one failure drags them down making them believe that it is impossible to succeed again.
For most successful people, they see their failures as indications that they can break new grounds. For them, failure is something positive where they can learn from their mistakes.
Keep in mind that success is never achieved accidentally. It is something systematic and a deliberate act of making a decision of what you desire to do and want to accomplish in your life.
